BEDFORD, NY — A Bedford attorney is throwing his hat into the political ring to fill the state Senate seat made vacant by George Latimer becoming Westchester County executive. Sarmad Khojasteh, who was born in Iran and grew up in Poughkeepsie, is seeking to be the Republican candidate for the District 37 seat.
Dan Schorr, a one-time candidate for county district attorney, is also vying for the slot, the Journal News said.
The one chosen by the Republican Party nominating convention will face state Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer, the Democratic candidate.
A special election has yet to be scheduled.
The 37th District contains parts of the cities of Yonkers, White Plains and New Rochelle as well as Bedford, Harrison, Mamaroneck, North Castle and Rye.
